In the news: Shrimp cocktail anyone?

Species

Earlier this month, a fishermen in Florida had quite the surprise when he found this dangling from the end of his rod and reel:

Measuring 18″ in length, this giant shrimp had to be picked up like a lobster over the back of the tail. Although scientists haven’t determined the exact species of the shrimp, it may be a mantis shrimp, which as it turns out is not related to the type of shrimp we eat. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission posted photos of this unique catch on their facebook page.  You can read more about the unusual catch by reading the USA Today story here.
